An archive of artistic practice between 2015 - 2020
I used computer animation, video, and sound to look at the inadequacy of the human form within a dominant technological climate. This work was rooted in the relationship I had with my own ailing body at the time. My early practice was an attempt to envision a synthesized digital anatomy; it was a labor toward a machine-like perfection in form, surface, and movement.
As the natural rhythm of the body drifted into a mechanical haze, I looked for the point where this progression became polluted or distorted into something Other. This led to a shift away from a living body inhabiting a digital space toward a fully synthesized figure roaming through 3D environments.
Animation gave me the ability to build controlled sites that acted as safe spaces to explore bodily fantasies. In these constructed worlds, I held absolute control over the body, from its wireframe mesh to the way it was lit and framed. Methodically, these simulations became a way to reconstruct personal trauma within a space where I could finally dictate the narrative.
