Self-Initiated Study
For this personal project I looked to 80s alcohol advertising as a starting point, focusing on minimal compositions, mirrors, reflections and sharp, high-contrast lighting. What began as a single still developed into a small series as I pushed the compositions and refined the material language, particularly around the ice. I was interested in that era’s use of reflection and negative space to create a sense of luxury without excess.
I spent time developing the ice so it held the right balance of clarity, density and distortion, then worked through how it interacted with the bottle through reflections and refractions. Getting that relationship right was key to the final image.
The label design is intentionally simple. A restrained palette and gold detailing pull the eye to the centre of the frame so the brand sits clearly within the composition. Each frame is designed to read as part of a wider set, with a consistent visual language across the series.
